Whatever the occasion or celebration, delicious food and drink can always be relied upon as essential ingredients to add to the enjoyment or help create the perfect gift to show your care. It’s no surprise that with an ever-growing collection of tasty food hampers, here at The St Andrews Hamper Company we’re proud advocates of Scottish food and go the extra mile to source the finest artisan food and drink from the best producers.
For starters, whilst St Andrews is understandably renowned as the Home of Golf and the location of one of the world’s top universities, we’re delighted to report that the food and drink produced locally and throughout Fife are equally top class. Looking at the bigger picture, Scotland’s national pantry is bursting with flavour and accolades thanks to the quality produce made by award-winning producers large and small the length and breadth of the country.
With vast areas of rich farm land, miles of clean coastal waters, a rich culinary heritage and a diverse range of producers, Scotland is deservedly famous for its food and drink. Whisky, seafood, cheese and prime meat are traditional favourites, while a new generation of distillers, brewers, bakers, snack makers and chocolatiers are also helping to put Scottish fare on the map.
And if you’re in the mood for a whistle stop tour of the country, our bestselling Tastes of Scotland Tuck Box is the perfect gift. Filled with 12 tasty eco & organic goodies sourced from leading artisan producers from around Scotland, it’s a real box of delights to send to someone special to tuck into and enjoy.
food for thought
Closer to home, we have a feast of producers on our doorstep, from small businesses to large enterprises. Sourcing local food wherever possible contributes to our commitment to sustainability and lowering our carbon footprint thanks to reducing transportation.
Our popular Tastes of Fife Tuck Box, for example, features products all sourced within the Kingdom of Fife, with treats including organic apple juice pressed from apples grown on Falkland Estate - home to historic Falkland Palace, beloved of the 16th century Scottish monarch, Mary, Queen of Scots - and local honey made by a small scale bee farmer with hives in the East Neuk of Fife.
No prizes for guessing that our Home of Golf Hamper honours St Andrews’ international recognition as the birthplace of golf. The 15 tasty treats and goodies contained within each hamper include locally distilled whisky or gin, award-winning smoked salmon - hand cured in the East Neuk coastal village of St Monans by a small artisan smokehouse in one of only three such kilns worldwide - and two moreish cheeses by the award-winning St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company, which specialises in making cheeses from the top quality raw milk produced by their home bred herd of Friesian Holstein cows.
Because we love being based in St Andrews, it's part and parcel of what we do to promote as many local companies as possible through our hampers, whilst doing what we can to protect the beautiful surroundings the town and Fife have to offer. We embrace a goal of minimal environmental impact by striving to package our products as sustainably as possible and supporting local businesses that share that goal.
As champions of Scottish produce, The St Andrews Hamper Company is fortunate to benefit from the input, support and expertise of a variety of food and drink networks. Locally, Food From Fife brings businesses together from all over the region to broaden opportunities within the food and drink industry and promote members’ produce, activities and events. We are proud to be members of and to collaborate with this growing, proactive local network and be part of raising awareness about the quality of what regional producers large, small and award winning are bringing to the table.
